The Kingdom of Thailand and the Lao People's Democratic Republic share a long historical tie. The year 2005 is an important milestone in the Thai-Lao history as it marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Thai-Lao diplomatic relations. As such, Governments of the two countries are determined to further strengthen future cooperation in many areas including politics, security, economy, transportation, telecommunications, agriculture, tourism, education, technical, social and cultural exchanges. Bilateral cooperation and multilateral cooperation through fora such as the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy or ACMECS, Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation or GMS, Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN and Asia Cooperation Dialogue or ACD will continue to strengthen ties in such a way that brings peace, prosperity and better understanding to the peoples of the two countries.

In light of this, the Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane has put together a website containing information on the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Kingdom of Thailand and various aspects of relations between the two countries. This website would not be possible without contributions from members of the "Team Thailand" in the Lao People's Democratic Republic - namely the Office of Military Attache in Vientiane, the Office of Commercial Affairs in Vientiane, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Savannakhet, the Association of Thai Banks in Vientiane and the Thai Airways International PCL in Vientiane. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok, the Thai-Lao Association for Friendship and the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic have also contributed to the website. It is hoped that this endeavor would, in a way big or small, serve to satisfy your information requirements and strengthen relationship between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Lao People's Democratic Republic. That will be true to the spirit of the Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane.
