Announcement on the Passing of His Excellency Virachai Plasai, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United States of America, and former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdome of Thailand to the United Nations

The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United Nations is deeply saddened to inform of the passing of His Excellency Mr. Virachai Plasai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United States of America, and former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United Nations, on Saturday, 16 March 2019 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Throughout the thirty-two years of his diplomatic career, Ambassador Plasai served his country in a variety of challenging and important roles with compassion, distinction and integrity. Most recently he was Thai Ambassador to the Netherlands (2009- 2015), followed by Thai Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2015-2018) during which time Ambassador Plasai and his wife, Elizabeth became dear friends and colleagues of those in the United Nations community, and finally as Thai Ambassador to the United States of America since June 2018. He will be fondly remembered by his friends and colleagues as the consummate diplomat and for his many talents and his gracious spirit.

A book of condolences is open for signature at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Thailand, located at 351 East 52nd Street, from 18 to 22 March 2019, 10.00 - 16.00 hrs. each day.
