THAILAND'S TOURIST VISA

Warning: Visa applicants with records of long and frequent stays in Thailand on previous tourist visas/ visa exemptions may have their visa application rejected if the applicant cannot provide adequate proof that they plan to travel to Thailand solely for tourism purposes. Applicants who wish to travel to Thailand for other purposes (work, retirement etc.) should apply for the appropriate visas. 

Starting 1 March 2020, tourist visa applications by non-Cambodians with no residency in Cambodia must be made in person (unless applicant is under 18 years old). More information here.

TYPES OF TOURIST VISA AND VALIDITY

1.      Single-Entry Tourist Visa: valid for entering Thailand once within 3 months from the date of application. The period of stay is 60 days maximum.

2.      Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa (enforced on 13 Nov 2015): valid for entering Thailand within 6 months from the date of application. The period of stay is 60 days maximum per stay. The Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa holder may enter Thailand again as long as the visa is still valid. Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa will only be granted to Cambodian nationals or those with proof of permanent residence in Cambodia.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

1.      Visa Application form(s) and photograph(s): Completed and signed Visa Application form and recent photograph(s) (size 3.5x4.5 cm).

2.      Passport (valid for no less than 6 months) 

3.      A copy of passport or travel document

4.      Travel tickets out of Thailand

5.      Evidence of adequate finance $1,000 per person or $2,000 per family or equivalent another currency. 

6.      Other documents: as may be requested by Consular officers in addition to the documents above. Please note that Consular officers reserve the right to require additional documents, or an interview with the applicant, as deemed necessary, without prior notice.

Applicants with records of long and frequent stays in Thailand on previous tourist visas/ visa exemptions are strongly encouraged to provide evidence that they plan to travel to Thailand solely for tourism purposes and that they plan to return to their country of citizenship or residence (such as letter of employment in applicant's country of residence, proof of renting or owning property in applicant's home country of country of residence). 

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR MULTIPLE ENTRY TOURIST VISA APPLICANTS

1.      Letter of Employment 

2.      Evidence of accommodation booking

THE ROYAL THAI EMBASSY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REJECT VISA APPLICATIONS, EVEN IF ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS ARE PROVIDED.

VISA APPLICATION FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE

VISA FEE (Cash only in US Dollars – Non-refundable)

1.      Single-Entry Tourist Visa: $40

2.      Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa: $200

PROCESSING TIME

Minimum of 3 working days, including day of submission and pickup

VALIDITY OF A VISA  

The validity of a visa is three months.

PERIOD OF STAY 

Travellers coming to Thailand with this type of visa will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period not exceeding 60 days

EXTENSION OF STAY

Those who wish to stay longer or may wish to change their type of visa must file an application for permission at the Office of Immigration Bureau located on Government Complex Building B, Chaengwattana Soi 7, Laksi, Bangkok 10210, Tel 0-2141-9889 http://www.immigration.go.th. The extension of stay as well as the change of certain type of visa is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

All nationalities can apply for a visa at the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh. However, applicants from some countries may have additional requirements and require approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok which may take over one month to process.
