    ASEAN Business Forum in Valencia New
    On 13 September 2018, the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM), comprising of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, organized ASEAN Business Forum in Valencia in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Valencia. The activity aimed at creating awareness of ASEAN economic potentials among Spanish private sectors as well as promoting trade and investment relations between the ASEAN and Spain. More than 70 representatives from private sectors, especially in Valencia and nearby cities, participated in the Business Forum.

    On 8 August 2018, H.E. Mrs. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain, as the Chairperson of the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM), hosted the ASEAN Day ceremony at the Residence of Thailand. Around 70 participants joined the celebration, including members of ASEAN Embassies in Madrid (Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand), diplomatic corps, representatives from Spanish public and private sectors.

    On 22 March 2018, H.E. Mrs. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain, on behalf of the ASEAN Committee in Madrid hosted Thank You Lunch for the 1st ASEAN University Fair´s collaborators at the Thai Residence. There were participants from Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) and some Spanish Universities. Ambassadors and Chargés d'affaires of ASEAN countries in Spain and educational institutions have committed to strengthening educational relations between ASEAN and Spain to a higher level.

    The 1st ASEAN University Fair in Madrid, Spain
    During 6-7 March 2018, ASEAN Committee in Madrid in collaboraton with Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain and the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid co-organized the 1st ASEAN University Fair in Madrid at the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, with the aims of promoting networking among representatives of universities of ASEAN and Spain in order to develop double degree programmes and exchange students as well as scholars, and of providing a unique platform for Spanish students to meet and gain information from universities in ASEAN on entry requirements and the application process. There were 10 well-known universities from ASEAN countries including 5 leading universities from Thailand such as Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University and Ramkhamhaeng University participating in this event.

    On 18 November 2017, ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) organized ASEAN Bowling Tournament at Bowling Chamartin Madrid. This activity was aimed to promote net working of cooperation between ACM and various sectors of Spain in areas of mutual benefit. There were about 25 participants from five ASEAN countries in Spain and their Spanish friends.

    On 26 October 2017, the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM), in collaboration with Complutense University of Madrid in organized ASEAN Talk on "ASEAN in the Changing International Landscape and the Way Forward¨ with an aim to raise awareness on ASEAN on the occasion of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN with H.E. Mr. Enrique Manalo, Undersecretary for Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines and H.E. Dr. Hassan Wirajuda, Former Foreign Minister of Indonesia as speakers.
    On this occasion, there were ASEAN exhibition and cultural performances. The Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid presented the exhibition on "Thailand's Path toward Sustainable Development" in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and a medley of the musical compositions of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej performed with Khim, Thai musical instrument. ASEAN Cocktail reception was also served. Thai Chicken Green Curry Fried Rice and Thai Grilled Chicken were the dishes served by the Royal Thai Embassy. There were about 200 participants from students, academics, diplomatic corps as well as public and private sectors in Madrid.

    ASEAN Committee in Madrid visited Duran Jewelry Shop and Intergift & Madrid Joja Fairs 2017 in Madrid
    On 20 September 2017, Mrs. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain in collaboration with Office of Commercial Affairs, Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid organized a program for ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) to visit Duran Jewelry Shop in Madrid, a well known jewelry producer and seller which has imported precious stone from Thailand more than 40 years. The ACM was welcomed by Mr. Juan Miguel Albarracin, President of Duran Group. After that ACM proceeded to participate in the opening ceremony of Intergift & Madrid Jewelry Fairs 2017 at IFEMA, which was officially opened by Ms. Engracia Hidalgo, President of the Board of IFEMA and Counsellor of Economy, Employment and Finance of the Community of Madrid. The ACM took this opportunity to visit booth of various countries including Duran Booth and Indonesian Booth.

    ASEAN Committee in Madrid visited Vigo, Galicia
    On 17 September 2017, ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) was invited by Indonesian Ambassador to Spain to visit Vigo, an important maritime industry, fishery, tourism and service hub in Galicia, and participated in launching ceremony of the Navy Training Ship of Indonesia built in Vigo, "KRI Bima Suci" which will be used as a joint training ship for ASEAN Navy Cadets in the future. Mr. Abel Caballero, Mayor of Vigo was the guest of honour on the said event. This training ship left Vigo Port in the afternoon of September 18 and will arrive Jakarta within the next two months.
    On 18 September 2017, ACM held the monthly meeting on the ship. Four ASEAN Ambassadors and the CD of the Philippines also gave short remarks to the Navy cadets about the role of ACM in raising awareness on ASEAN Community in Spain.

    The 1st ASEAN Familay Day in Madrid at the Residence of Indonesian Ambassador to Spain
    On 16 September 2017, H.E. Mrs. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain led officials from Team Thailand in Spain together with their local staffs and Thai students in Spain to participate in the 1st ASEAN Family Day in Spain, organized by ASEAN Committee in Madrid at the Residence of the Indonesian Ambassador to Spain. This activity was aimed not only to enhance relationship between the people of ASEAN countries in Spain but also to raise awareness on the establishment of ASEAN Community. There were about 200 participants from five ASEAN countries in Spain and their Spanish friends.
    At this event, apart from warm-up exercise, ASEAN traditional games for adults and children such as musical chair, three-legged race, tug of war and ping-pong relay race and golden voice competition, ASEAN Food lunch was also served. The famous "Pad Thai" and "Thai chicken rice and ruam mitr" were the dishes served by Royal Thai Embassy.

    Meeting of the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) and the Assumption of new Chairmanship
    On 11 July 2017, the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) held a meeting to review activities and projects aimed towards cooperation with Spain and discussed plan of action of the Committee in the next 6 months. The Committee also exchanged information of the recent cooperation between ASEAN and EU.
    At the end of the meeting, the Chairmanship of ACM was transferred from Her Excellency Ambassador of Indonesia to His Excellency Ambassador of Malaysia who will be Chair during July – December 2017.
    On this occasion, the Committee expressed its high appreciation to Her Excellency Ambassador of Indonesia for her tirelessly devotion as chair the ACM throughout her 1 year Chairmanship.

    On 4 July 2017, the ASEAN Ambassadors to Spain paid courtesy call on Mr. Pedro Santisteve, Mayor of Zaragoza at Town Hall on the occasion that the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM), in collaboration with Chamber of Commerce of Zaragoza, organized an ASEAN Business Forum on "Trade and Investment Opportunities in ASEAN" with an aim to raise awareness on ASEAN on the occasion of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN and the 40th anniversary of the ASEAN-EU relations. There were about 50 participants from public and private sectors in Zaragoza.
    The ASEAN Ambassadors briefed the meeting on the investment promotion policies of each countries and business opportunity for Spanish business sector to invest more in the region. In this regard, H.E. Mrs. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain thanked the proactive initiative of the Chamber of Zaragoza in organizing a trade mission to Thailand last year and encouraged that more Zaragoza private sectors to explore the vast opportunities in Thailand. H.E. the Ambassador delivered the information focusing on Thailand's key policies and projects which include Thailand 4.0, digital economy, the development on Eastern Economic Corridor, along with BOI's incentives for foreign investment. Apart from that, she invited the Spanish companies to also consider using Thailand's linkage location in setting up International Headquarter or International Trading Center in Thailand. The one-on-one meeting after the Forum was also drew much interest for Spanish business sector.

    On 28 June 2017, the ASEAN Committee in Madrid (ACM) in collaboration with CEOE (Confederation of Employers and Industries of Spain) and Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness of Spain organized an ASEAN Business Forum on "Trade and Investment Opportunities in ASEAN" with an aim to raise awareness on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN and the 40th anniversary of the ASEAN-EU relations. There were about 100 participants from public and private sectors of Spain.
    The ASEAN Ambassadors briefed the meeting on the investment promotion policies of each countries and business opportunity for Spanish business sector to invest more in the region. Some of the CEOs of Spanish companies also shared their experience in doing business in ASEAN during which, INDRA's Operations Director for Asia Pacific, Mr. Jorge Garcia shared his company experience in doing business in Thailand.
    On this Occasion H.E. Mrs. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain gave a presentation on "Thailand's economic potential", focusing on Thailand's key policies and projects which include Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor, Thailand 4.0, digital economy, BOI's incentives for foreign investment as well as inviting Spanish companies to set up international headquarters in Thailand.
    Apart from the business forum and the one-on-one meeting which got much interest for Spanish business sector, ASEAN Food Cocktail reception was also served. The famous "Pad Thai" and "green curry fried rice" were the dishes served by Royal Thai Embassy.

    On 3 September 2018, H.E. Mrs. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. Ana María Sálomon, Director-General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, who recently assumed her duty as the Department’s Director-General. Ambassador of Thailand took this opportunity to congratulate H.E. Mrs. Sálomon on the appointment as the new Director-General of the Department and reiterate the readiness of the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid to work closely with the Department.
    According the Ambassador Chansuriya, there has been increasing interest of Spanish public and private sector in recent years. Strategic Vision for Spain in Asia 2018-2022 and the establishment of Spain – ASEAN Business Association are the testimonies of Spain’s commitment to enhance its ties with Asia, including Thailand.
    In this meeting, Ambassador of Thailand and the Director-General took stock of issues in Thailand-Spain bilateral relations and discussed on the further strengthening of our bilateral bonds in wide-range areas, including trade and investment, tourism, fisheries cooperation among other.
    Both sides also discussed about possible activities for the Thai Foreign Minister at the margin of the 14th ASEM Foreign Minister Meeting, to be hosted by Spain next year. Thailand and Spain also stressed the importance of the 3rd Meeting of Thailand-Spain Political Consultation, which will be held in Thailand soon.
    Ambassador of Thailand also shared with the Director-General information on Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and its investment opportunities, which the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid has already conveyed to private sectors in Spain for their consideration.

    Visit to the Port of Algeciras and the Halal Institute
    A delegation of the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid visited the Port of Algeciras in Cádiz and the Halal Institute in Córdoba and had fruitful discussions with the authorities of both institutions on 29-30 August 2018.
    On 29 August 2018, the Thai delegation visited the Port’s facility and held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Gerardo Landaluce, Development and Commercial Director of the Port, on how to enhance economic cooperation between the Port and Thailand, especially in the areas concerning halal business. The Port of Algeciras, one of the most important ports in Spain, is the country’s first halal certified port. Given its strategic location in the south of Spain, the Port of Algeciras serves to connect the trading routes between southern Europe and Africa.
    On 30 August 2018, the delegation had a discussion with the Halal Institute to follow up on cooperation issues that were agreed upon by the Institute and a Thai delegation in a meeting held at the margin of the Expo Halal Alimentaria 2018 in Barcelona last April. At this meeting, the Embassy’s delegation and the authorities of the Halal Institute also looked into possible areas of cooperation to further strengthen the ties between the two countries. In this occasion, the Thai delegation had the opportunity to visit the Halal Industrial Park in Córdoba, established to promote halal industry in the city, and exchange views on the promotion of halal tourism.
    This visit to the south of Spain is in line with the Thai government policy to place Thailand in the Top 5 of global halal product exporting countries by 2020, as well as to promote halal tourism of the country.

    A study visit of Team Thailand in Madrid to an Iberian ham producer in the cities of Aracena and Jabugo
    On 27 August 2018, H.E. Ms. Rattikul Chansuriya, Ambassador of Thailand to Spain, together with members of Team Thailand in Madrid visited the warehouse of 5J, a famous Iberian ham producer in Aracena and Jabugo in the southwestern part of Spain to discuss about the prospect of expanding its market in Thailand.
    5J is a legendary Iberian ham producer that started its business in 1879. Its Iberian ham, a well-known products of Spain, is made of pure-bred Iberian pigs fed with acrons. Since the end of last year, 5J has introduced its products to the Thai market. The company considers Thailand as the most promising Iberian ham market in Southeast Asia.
