Highlights : Launch Event of the Thai Language Version of Thailand Migration Report 2019

On 10 October 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) co-hosted the launch event of the Thai language version of Thailand Migration Report 2019 at Narathip Auditorium, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was attended by approximately 170 participants including government officials, representatives of the private sector, civil society, academia, diplomatic corps and relevant international organisations.
During the launch event, important elements of the report were highlighted, including the importance of migrant workers, particularly in the context of Thailand’s ageing society, the need to ensure that the protection of migrant workers are in line with international standards, major progress made by the Royal Thai Government such as measures on alternatives to detention for migrant children and access to services by migrants.
The Thailand Migration Report, the fifth edition since 2005, is a collaboration of works undertaken by 15 different UN agencies under the ‘UN Thematic Working Group on Migration in Thailand’ and aims to give an overview of the current migration situation in Thailand, as well as to indicate challenges and policy recommendations on various migration-related topics for the Government and relevant stakeholders for further consideration. The original English version was issued earlier in January 2019. The report (English and Thai versions) can be downloaded from: https://thailand.iom.int/thailand-migration-report-2019-0.
