NEWS : Thailand and Timor-Leste launched Collaborative Survey on Marine Fisheries Resources and Environmen

On 13 June 2019 H.E. Mr. Fidelis Leite Magalhães, Minister of Legislative Reform and Parliamentary Reforms, Acting Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and Ms. Acharapan Yavaprapas, Minister Counselor, representative of Royal Thai Embassy presided over the Launching Ceremony of Collaborative Survey on Marine Fisheries Resources and Environment in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Timor-Leste.
This project is implemented in response to the request of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries on research cooperation possibility in exploration of marine resources.

The Department of Fisheries of Thailand is pleased to launch the joint survey to support sustainable fishery management and deep-sea fisheries development in Timor-Leste. The survey is conducted by the Research Vessel R.V. Chulabhorn, covering both South and North Coast of Timor Sea during June –July 2019.

The Royal Thai Embassy hopes that such a technical cooperation can also extend to freshwater aquaculture and fish handling and preservation. Thailand is ready to send experts to train Timor-Leste officials and fishermen. It is hoped that the collaborative survey is a stepping stone to expand cooperation in other sectors in the field of both fishery and agriculture between Thailand and Timor-Leste.
